The Orphan Works bill (which has been around since 2005) makes no concessions to steal your art. It only covers work for which: --> the copyright owner cannot be found, or --> the copyright has expired and no claims by heirs have been made to said copyright, or --> the art belongs to the public domain Know your rights under the Copyright Act of 1976. Read the Bill itself, or summaries as provided by the US Government. Recommended reading: [link] CommentsI'm glad you've posted this. Most people have either not read the law, or just don't care enough to even try. Part of supporting something or not supporting something is doing the proper research for it. People just jump on the band wagon because there is a hysteria going around dA right now.
I'm especially saddened by people that claim "You need to know your rights! Don't let the man take your work." Know the bill before you go around making a statements like that. So yes, thanks for being the ray of sunshine pushing through the misinformed masses. -- "Technically, we are not animals. We are mammals." -Songoli. thank you for at least taking the time to see the other side. even if you still don't like it.
i don't like it either. i feel like the lawyers of corporations are trying to take advantage of artists that may appear to be ignorant. -- JOIN THIS CONTEST thanks for the post. i still don't like the idea of the government or public owning a work of art just because the creator can't easily be found. i still consider that stealing. thanks for the linnk though. i believed everything that people said about anyone having all rights to any work of art. this clarified a lot for me. again, thank you.
-- trick me once, shame on you. trick me twice, shame on you again. ...because that's mean. i found the GREATEST website EVER. [link] you're most welcome. thank you for taking the time to think about it before committing yourself.
